Dusk had always been Zeke's favorite time of day. The final rays of light stained the ocean a brilliant blood-red, his slim form silhouetted against the dying sun. Had this been a normal situation, he'd be taking time to admire the sight, but this was by no means normal. There was a reason these cliffs were off-limits, as he was just now discovering. The footing here was treacherous at best, where the constant spray of the surf had worn the rock smooth. Handholds were few and far between, making it that much harder to haul himself up the sheer face of the cliff. And it was not uncommon for the rock to crumble away unexpectedly- as his numerous scrapes and bruises proved. Yes, navigation here required all of his concentration.
A soft hiss of pain escaped his throat as his foot slipped yet again, scraping his shin roughly against the cliff face. Okay, that was the last straw. He'd sworn to himself that he would not rely upon his Pokemon form, but unless he wanted a broken neck, there was really no choice here. With a frustrated sigh, he reached behind him, pulling his pack from his back and flinging it to the relative safety of the ledge above him. That done, he lurched upward, ignoring the uncomfortable sensation of his organs rearranging themselves. For a few heart-stopping moments, his grip on the cliff vanished entirely. But then, as suddenly as it had begun, the transformation halted. Dagger-like claws clutched the rock in a death-grip as the newly-formed Absol hauled himself upward, the muscles beneath his snowy pelt rippling with the effort.
Panting slightly, he managed to pull himself up onto the ledge he had spotted earlier. He collapsed next to his bag, and, after a brief moment of consideration, returned to his human form. Granted, he was safer as an Absol, as the Pokemon's acute senses could predict most any disaster. Yet, there was something wild about laying up here on the treacherous cliffs, in the skin of a pale, fragile human. The danger, the brief adrenaline rush, brought back comforting memories. Memories of the snowy mountains which had once been his home...
He snorted bitterly, giving his head a hard shake. This wistful thinking was as dangerous as the climb had been. These slippery, treacherous, corrupted thoughts of the past would do nothing but cloud his mind, which, in a place such as this, was simply not acceptable. Besides, he hadn't come here because of homesickness. He'd come here to have a quiet place for schoolwork. Right...?
He sighed softly, not quite able to convince himself.
Swinging his legs around so they dangled out over the sheer drop, he sat up, nestling his backpack in his lap.The soft rustle of paper echoed along the cliffs as he carefully extracted his homework. Okay, perhaps he was the slightest bit homesick. He was still capable of being productive. Squinting in the dying light, he started on the massive mound of work.
Here he was, halfway up a forbidden cliff-face, his slight body hanging carelessly off the edge, risking the deadly fall just for a homework place when the library could have worked just as well... Perhaps it was insane, but he'd never felt happier. Zeke couldn't help whistling a jolly little tune to himself as the first star of the night made itself known in the sky so high above him.

About thirty feet above Zeke, another form was sitting on the cliffs and had been there for nearly half an hour. However, this being had not come out to do homework or contemplate past memories. Instead, Lex had come out to smoke and was sitting with his form hunched over the side of the ledge he was sitting on with a fag in his mouth and looking worse than he normally did. Considering smoking was looked down on heavily by those on the island, for obvious health reasons, and probably banned in the school itself, as if Lex himself would actually know the rules of said Academy, the grey haired young man had made the tedious trek out to the cliffs and climbed downwards rather than up to find a more secluded place to get his nicotine.
Scaling downwards had been a lot easier than going up, and thus, he had been able to move rather quietly and all but sneakily until he got there. He honestly didn't feel good, and it wasn't just his general moody feeling either. Even the fix of toxic substances in his lungs wasn't enough to make him happy, though he had to admit that it was livening his mood at least a bit. It was one of those rare days that just didn't seem to go well at all. He'd gotten into a dozen or so fights, got caught skipping class and given detention, got chewed out by the league he was apart of, and got slapped by various female figures for different offending reasons one of them just for being himself. Yep, it just wasn't his day, it seemed. Lex wasn't even going to bother with trying to put up some sort of cheesy or smart-ass front right at the moment especially considering there was - he assumed - no one around at the moment. No, for now, he'd allow himself to feel burnt and go on.
Fishing out his pack of cigarettes, Lex began to fish through the few sticks that were still left in that particular box as though he were a child deciding which candy he wanted. After a few moments, he finally pulled one out and began to fumble in his pocket for a lighter. Starting to flick the flint to get the small flame going as he inserted the cig in his mouth, Lex found that the damn thing didn't seem to want to start. Gritting his teeth, he flicked it several times before causing his thumb to hit it so hard that the lighter itself sprung from his hand and leaped outwards towards a cliff down below. "Son of a...." Lex hissed slightly before looking over the edge to see if it had fallen anywhere in sight. It was then that he actually caught sight of someone below him. Ah, just lovely.

Zeke had to admit, this was kind of nice. Well, not the homework part (he'd never given a damn before, and was lucky that he could even read), but the cliffs. Long nights spent in the form of a dark-type had sharpened his eyesight, so for the moment at least, the light of the stars was enough to get by on. Peace, quiet, and the steady roar of the surf below: really, there was nothing more he could ask for. He leaned back on his elbows leisurely, all thoughts of homework long forgotten. Man, he could stay up here forever. It was tempting to just doze off...
Half-awake and half-asleep, the shifter's mind barely registered the strange clicking sound made by the lighter as it tumbled down the cliffs. Groggily, he blinked his eyes open. Nothing of immediate interest met his gaze, so, fairly convinced that he had imagined the noise, he allowed his eyes to drift shut once again. Mumbling something incomprehensible, he leaned farther back onto his ledge, not so easily roused from his slumber. That was, until a voice echoed down the cliff.
"Son of a..."
Okay. Now that, he didn't imagine. He shot upright, startled, scanning the air for the source of the voice. And found himself looking straight into the face of a fellow human being. Ugh, this was just brilliant.
"Really?" He hissed, not quite believing his eyes. Of all the miserable luck. The one night where he was well and truly alone... Sighing deeply, the shifter forced himself into a relatively upright position. He had a distinct feeling that, before long, he'd be chasing after the stranger's dropped object. Though the thought of going back down those cliffs again was distasteful, at the moment he would do almost anything to be alone again. Leaning forward, he peered down over the edge. True enough, a small silver something glinted in the starlight. "I suppose you're going to ask me to get that, aren't you?" He huffed, irritated.

Lex had simply remained staring downwards until realizing he'd been addressed by the form there. Sea foam eyes blinked for a few seconds before zeroing in more on the face. Ah, fun. The general huff and tone of the words went ignored and instead, Lex simply sighed and set an elbow on his knee and a head in his hand. "Nah... I'll go down and get it whenever I feel like it," he answered back in a dry but slightly cocky tone. Hey, he may not totally be himself, but he still had hints of it here and there.
" 'Nless you just wanna go flying down the cliffs for me and bring it back up," he smirked slightly finishing his full statement before falling somber again. "Ya happen to be a bird boy or somethin'?" he asked chuckling slightly to himself. He honestly wouldn't be surprised. There were flying type pokemon in the world and bout to be Flying type shifters on the island even if he couldn't think of any off the top of his exhausted mind. Sometimes he wished he had wings, but he'd always enjoy the prestige of having the aura of a Fighting pokemon. Knowing this made him feel like he had more life than others, even if this was probably not even close to being true.
Realizing he was doing nothing more than holding a cigarette in his mouth now, Lex pulled it from the side of his mouth and reached sideways before shoving it back in his box. Without a lighter, it was pretty useless. "You come here often?" he asked not looking down to see if the person in question was even there anymore. Might as well say something more than just that, right? He wasn't a complete jackass.

"Nah... I'll go down and get it whenever I feel like it."
Like Lex had done before him, Zeke proceeded to ignore the cocky tone of voice, focusing instead on the words. After all, if he deliberately ignored the fact that the stranger was probably being sarcastic, he wouldn't have to move from his comfortable ledge. Which was a very good thing, come to think of it. This was a nice hiding spot, and he wasn’t positive that he was up to another climb so quickly. He nodded to himself once, sharply, before scooting away from the perilous cliff edge. If this stranger was so confident in his abilities, he could very well go fetch the thing-a-ma-jig himself. Sprawling out on his back, hands locked neatly behind his head, he closed his eyes. If nothing more was required of him, then he might as well go back to sleep. The shifter had always been a recluse, and the fact that this might be considered rude never even crossed his mind.
"'Nless you just wanna go flying down the cliffs for me and bring it back up. Ya happen to be a bird boy or somethin'?"
Icy blue eyes flickered open, glaring up at the older boy. Was that an insult? He scoffed quietly, his voice radiating disapproval. Not only was this stranger disturbing the peace, but he was questioning Zeke’s abilities as a shifter! ”I would not have offered if I were incapable,” he muttered crossly, despising the fact that he needed to explain such a simple concept. ”But, hey, if you want to risk breaking your neck, it’s perfectly fine with me.” This guy, whoever he was, presented an interesting dilemma. He was maneuvering in such a way that the Absol shifter would be forced to abandon his little ledge. If he didn’t, he’d look like a frightened child, too terrified for even a small climb such as this. Not even the beautiful stars above, glittering like frozen diamonds, could comfort his wounded dignity then.
”"You come here often?" What, was the boy still talking? Jeez. He could at least make up his mind. He was either friendly, or not; it wasn't a difficult distinction. But, as long as they were conversing, Zeke might as well say something. Perhaps he could distract the stranger from the issue of the climb, and avoid the unpleasantness that was sure to follow... ”No. This is the first time I’ve been up here.” A frigid ocean breeze washed its way over the cliff, and he closed his eyes once again, thoroughly enjoying the chill. Sunnyshore was hot and humid, and the change was more than welcome. Things would be absolutely perfect, if this blasted kid would just leave.

Due to Zeke's muttering, his actual words had been lost mostly on Lex who had only heard something along the lines of 'incapable' which, to his mind, registered as 'I can't fly'. Well, damn. It wasn't like he really expected the boy to be a Flying pokemon, shesh chill out man. If he had been in a better mood, or possibly a more lively one seeing as both registered the same effect, Lex would have sneered something along the lines of 'well sucks for you' even if, in fact, he too couldn't fly.
The second statement, said a bit louder, caused an eyebrow to raise on Lex's forehead. Heh...Risk breaking his neck? Eh, he did that every day of the week in some form or fashion-- though the risks weren't usually as great as climbing down a cliff that spelled disaster to anyone who fell. However, to Lex, it was all the same: not actually because he was that cocky about it either-- more because he could honestly see his ass getting killed at any point in time. There were enough variables in the life equation to where an algorithm was impossible for a human to formulate. Lex had tried.
Upon finding his question answered, Lex blinked. Oh hey, so he was going to keep up the conversation. Well that was just peachy, but eh... why not? Nothing better to do at this point seeing as his lighter was down the cliffs, and he honestly didn't feel like climbing up said cliffs and going back to school to probably get yelled at by some teacher -- or possibly worse the Assistant Headmaster-- Arceus damn him -er- only sometimes.
So it was his first time being up on the cliffs? Heh, well that was nice. His first time ever being here was back in... Freshman year was it? Yeah that sounded about right. "Ah, 's great ain't it?" he laughed slightly to himself not because he'd actually said anything funny so much that his body was craving one of those needless laughs at the moment after having been through hell and back today. "If you keep comin' back, you'll probably see me more often........the name's Lex," he spoke a bit easier now, as though possibly the conversation was setting his mood back into something less... dead.

The stranger said something that was lost on Zeke, though it was followed by a short laugh. He dismissed the statement as small talk, not feeling the need to reply. Gah, people were so tiring sometimes. There was such thing as companionable silence, after all. They didn't have to keep talking...
"If you keep comin' back, you'll probably see me more often........the name's Lex."
That was such a shame. He'd never get these cliffs to himself. It was nice up here, and he really did not want to go searching for another hiding place. Though, come to think of it, there were plenty of ledges along this side of the island. Maybe, if they avoided getting off on the wrong foot, something could be worked out... "Zeke." He blurted suddenly, trying to break the silence. It was a failed attempt, though, as the single syllable sounded cold and empty. Even to the recluse, which was saying something. Ugh.
He couldn't think of anything that would correct the blunder, so he merely hoped that the stranger wouldn't be offended. In the following silence, his mind began to wander. As he gazed upon the sky, it occurred to him that it was getting pretty late. The moon would rise soon, bathing the academy grounds in pale light. If he went back to the dorms now, before it rose, the lack of moonlight would lessen his chances of being seen... And he had a feeling that the teachers would not take kindly to him sneaking back at this hour. With a small sigh, he began to rise. "I think I'll be going back s-shit!" The last word morphed into a curse as his bag clattered off down the cliff. He hadn't been paying attention when he moved, and had knocked it straight off the ledge! Lurching forward, he peered over the side of the rock, trying to see where it had landed.

The tone of the name given actually went unnoticed... or unmentioned at least. It didn't seem to phase Lex either way. Zeke? Well damn wasn't that a mildly cool name. Not that Lex didn't like his own name more, heh. Far better than its longer rendition Alexander, Lex thought, anyways. However, on that thought, he wondered if Zeke was just a name within itself or for something longer. Bah, what did he care? Heh, he was not going to over think something that silly.
The silence that fell after that actually mildly unnerved Lex, and he shifted uncomfortably for a few seconds until Zeke had spoke up again. However, the last word left him raising his eyebrow in a general 'the fuck?' look. However, the sounds of the bag rolling down the cliff was enough to explain. Looking over the ledge, Lex stared down into the darkness. "Well damn..." he swore mildly raising his eyebrow just little. "That sounded big..." he mumbled after a moment looking through the darkness and wondering what exactly had fell. Upon finding that there was no longer a bag on Zeke's ledge--- Oh that just sucked.
Without another thought, Lex shoved himself off his ledge and went sliding down to Zeke's, digging his heels into the rock for some sort of traction away from a direct fall. Upon getting there, he stepped forwards just in time to land on his feet. His poor sneakers had just been rubbed clean of sole, but overall, the grey haired boy had managed to 'fall' well enough. "Ya have anythin' important in there?" he asked. In truth, there were a few ulterior motives to coming down, really, and Lex was wondering if maybe he could see his lighter from here. OOC: Sorry I disappeared :X Christmas stuff overwhelmed me for the past few days.

With a slight moan, Zeke peered down into the darkness. His bag appeared to have landed next to Lex's little object, on a ledge some forty feet below. It was far enough down that the spray of the surf would have made the rocks wet and slippery. All in all, even more dangerous than the cliffs normally were.
A loud clatter erupted behind him, and he started, nearly falling off the ledge himself. Whirling around, he found himself staring at Lex's- um. Chest? With a slight frown, he craned his head back, trying to look the older boy in the face. Good Arceus, this kid was tall. Well, to be honest, at a mere 4'4", Zeke was horribly, unnaturally short. But seriously. This was... unnerving. He opened his mouth to say something, but apparently thought better of it. Knitting his eyebrows together in a scowl, he turned away.
"Ya have anythin' important in there?"
Hmm. Zeke had never owned anything particularly expensive, and he wasn't the type to keep a load of sentimental junk. But there were a few things in there he was fond of, to be sure. A watch he'd 'liberated' from his oldest brother, stuff like that. Besides, he had no idea how he'd afford another bag. A tight nod was his only answer, before he went back to pondering how to get down the cliffs safely. It would be a breeze for his Absol, he knew: four legs were better than two, and night vision would certainly be a plus. And yet, he found himself strangely self-conscious, shifting in front of this guy he'd hardly met. Everyone here was a shifter, so he shouldn't have been that worried. But he'd lost track of the amount of people who'd freaked out finding themselves suddenly in the presence of the Disaster Pokemon. Especially in a place like these cliffs, where rockfalls were not uncommon. Psh, that would be just his luck. Killing some kid so soon after arriving at the academy. He shifted his weight from one foot to another, awkwardly, waiting for Lex to make to first move...

Upon actually seeing Zeke for what he was fully now, Lex raised his eyebrow for a brief moment as he looked down at him. How old was this kid, exactly? He looked like he could be a middle schooler or something. Meh, he'd ask later assuming they had something more to talk about outside of retrieving stuff that went flying off the cliffs.
At the lack of a response form Zeke, Lex looked at him only to catch sight of the nod. Ah jeeze. Well, he could help a kid he guessed. "Ah that drop looks fun," the grey haired boy stated dryly looking down at the cliff below again. There was far from any sound of fun in his tone, and instead, Lex was actually looking down towards the things rather critically.
He could slide down like he had to get to Zeke's level, but at the same time, that would just tear up his shoes again... He could honestly just buy a new pair of shoes considering he was rich, but he liked this pair of shoes, damn it. Well, that only left shedding the shoes... which would only hurt his feet in his human form, anyways. Pft, simple enough then. Third plan's the charm.
Sucking in a good deal of air, Lex brought his knuckles together and cracked them both before shifting rather easily into a Mienshao. "I'm goin' for my lighter. Want your bag?" he asked, but before Zeke could answer, Lex quite literally jumped off the cliff and went sliding down the rocks again sliding sideways and using his arms to balance himself as if he was on a surfboard. Upon coming to the cliff, nailed feet dug sharply into the cliff and forced the Mienshao to freeze. Well damn that had been more fun than the first leap, heh. Looking up, he waved a 'sleeve' at Zeke.

"Ah that drop looks fun." He couldn’t help a humorless chuckle at that. Yeah, this drop would be rough going as a human... "I'm goin' for my lighter. Want your bag?" What? Zeke turned sharply, and his gaze fell upon a graceful Pokemon. Who, Arceus damn him, was still taller. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, the creature was leaping off the cliff. Er. Well then. Peering down at the drop below, he couldn’t help but whistle softly. Lex looked like he was more familiar with these cliffs than he let on. The Absol shifter hesitated a moment longer, reluctant to get too close. The fighting-type had him nervous in more ways than one. But then, the creature waved at him, and his mind was made.
Taking a deep breath, he set his jaw determinedly. He would not be outdone. And so, he dove forward, assuming his Absol form in one fluid motion. He let himself drop for eight, nine, ten feet, before digging in his claws. Muscles straining, he slowed to a crawl, before bounding forward again. The Pokemon continued to descend in short leaps, almost cat-like, before dropping gracefully onto the ledge below. Icy blue eyes glittered triumphantly, feeling as if he’d made up for his small height. Reaching his forelegs out, he stretched luxuriously, snowy pelt gleaming in the starlight. Unable to resist, he let a small smirk paint his face. ”Nah, s’okay. I got it.” Without another word, he reached out his neck, deftly snatching the bag up in his mouth. As fond as he was of the agile Pokemon’s form, he mourned the loss of his hands... Straightening, he gazed steadily at the Mienshao, waiting for Lex to grab his lighter so they could be gone.

Watching as Zeke dove forwards off the cliffs, the Mienshao smirked watching a fluid shift into a-... Lex's still pale green eyes widened at the sight of the Absol as he began to now descend down the cliff. Well son of a gun, wasn't that interesting? He'd heard about the disaster pokemon, but having lived in the Sevii islands nearly all his life, he had never come by one. Tales that they caused avalanches and the like began to pour out into the back of Lex's mind, but honestly he couldn't bring himself to believe it just yet. Nah, no way. Absol was just another pokemon... though a damn pretty one. Pft, he was still better looking, Lex was sure of it.
An easy smirk slowly settled onto his face as the Absol finally came to his level new level. "Well damn aren't you a pretty pokemon," the Mienshao laughed for a few seconds shaking his head as though trying to make it clear that he was just messing with him. As Zeke picked up the bag, the Mienshao slowly reached down a paw and picked up a lighter. "Hope this damn thing works for as much trouble as it was," the Mienshao laughed before looking up at the cliffs above.
"Last one up loses!" he suddenly shouted before Lex suddenly made a running leap and latched onto the wall of the cliff. Though his front paws had no real claws to grip the rock, the nails of the back feet dug well into the rock, and with an ease that had only come with much training, Lex began to kick himself up and claw into the rock scaling with his back feet only. Leaning forwards and steadying his body against the cliffs, the Mineshao continued up. "Come on Slowpoke!" he shouted back a moment before continuing forwards again.
