The youngest of four rambunctious boys, Zeke's childhood was... interesting, to say the least. Even before he was born, the family had been dirt poor, barely paying the monthly rent on their small cabin in Snowpoint City. His father loved his three sons dearly, but had to work day and night to support them. When he found out that there was going to be yet another baby, he panicked. Having no idea how he would be able to care for all of them, he took the easy way out: he left. Thus leaving Zeke's mother alone, pregnant, with three children to tend to, and no job whatsoever.
She tried desperately to find work, but to no avail. No one would hire a pregnant woman, who would soon leave on maternity, anyway. Reluctantly, she was forced to send her sons to work. They did odd jobs whenever they could, shoveling the walk, anything to bring in a few extra dollars. Somehow, the family managed to scrape by, though it was by no means an easy existence.
The moment Zeke was born, his mother went to find work. He was left alone in the small cabin with his brothers, the oldest of whom was twelve. Since going out to play with neighborhood friends was much more inviting than sitting inside watching some baby all day, they were often gone, leaving him alone for long hours at a time. As such, Zeke was a late bloomer in practically everything. No one bothered to teach him anything, and he had no particular desire to learn. He learned to talk late, learned to walk late, always seemed to be a year or two behind.
He finally did venture outside for the first time, when he was about five years old. His brothers, to their credit, welcomed him with open arms. Now that he wasn't quite so boring, they had no problems accepting him into their games. Though his life got off to a rocky start, rendering him permanently antisocial, from then on he lived a relatively normal life. Granted, he was an absolute failure in school (the kid could barely read, and was several grade levels behind in almost everything), but other than that, he got along fine. He was often forced to pick up small jobs around the neighborhood for some extra cash, but it really wasn't a problem. It left him alone with his thoughts, which suited him just fine.
The dreams started coming to him when he was about eight. They were not, however, wonderful dreams. They were nightmares, each and every time. An Absol -the bringer of disasters- appeared to him, and whenever the Pokemon showed up, something awful would happen. Floods, earthquakes, avalanches, you name it- they all haunted his sleep, along with that cursed Pokemon. The monster scared him to death, and if it was possible, he became even more secluded. You can imagine his fright when, one winter night when he was fourteen, the Absol attacked him.
He forced himself awake, hoping that it would stop the pain, but to his horror it only got worse. He found himself in the middle of a shift, his worst nightmare. Panicked, he cried out, and soon all of his brothers were in his room. They could do nothing but watch in growing horror as their little brother was violently ripped out of his own body, forced into the form of a Pokemon. Now, by this time his oldest brother was a grown man, who'd stuck around simply to support the family. He really should have known better than to panic, but Snowpoint was a superstitious town (it had grown up around Regigigas's temple, after all). Zeke had always been a recluse, and, well, his shifting into the Disaster Pokemon did not go over well. The family panicked, and Zeke found himself kicked out, alone in the snow, before he could even shift back to a human.
Now, the snow had been heavy that winter, and the mountains were laden with the white powder. It was a well known rule in Snowpoint that, in the winter at least, you kept your voice down; too loud of a noise could set off an avalanche. Zeke, in his panic, forgot. Frightened -and also furious- he tried to shout at his family, argue with them, explain that he was still their brother. But of course, that was not possible while in Pokemon form. The sound came out as a savage roar, instead. Just like that, the mountains erupted, burying the small log cabin in a tidal wave of snow.
Zeke did not know if his family made it out alive, and neither did he care to stay and find out. He ran, for all he was worth. He had heard rumors of a place for shifters, monsters like himself. Maybe, if he found a way to control this, he would bring disaster on anyone else... And so, he began his journey across the region. Staying far away from civilization, for fear of bringing disaster on even more innocent people, he struggled his way towards Sunnyshore. The journey seemed to take ages, as he avoided the well-traveled Routes at all costs. Finally, after he'd just turned fifteen, he managed to find the Academy.
To this day, he remains firmly convinced that he's a monster, responsible for his family's death. The guilt weighs heavily on his mind, and he attends classes with a sort of numbness, trying to control the animal within him. He's still pretty much a newbie at the academy, not knowing anyone, and frankly, not caring to know anyone. His only dream is that he can, somehow, find a cure for this shifting and put a halt to it forever.

Hiya! My name's ZERO and I play ZEKE! I've been derping around on planet Earth for FIFTEEN years, and I've been a member of the awesome group of people called roleplayers for THREE years! As a member of Hearts and Aura, I promise to make this place awesome and not to give Mariette any headaches, because I could get their banhammer to the face! Most importantly, though, I promise to have fun, because that's what roleplaying is all about, isn't it? ♥
