The only child of two researchers from Hoenn, Claudia claims that she was destined to be on the path of a researcher from a very young age. As a child, she was seen more often reading than she was playing with the other children in the city. She spent most of her time indoors, sitting on the couch in her parents' study, the family's Herdier curled up in her lap, a book in her hands. However, at the same time, Claudia showed signs of being a pure, kind-hearted soul. The few times she did wander outside (usually to sit under one of the trees outside their home and read, she would often watch the other children, taking care of the younger ones, and even taking them in and reading them stories. Around the age of six, Claudia gained the teasing nickname "Mother Swanna" because of how she often took the younger kids into her backyard and read books to them, or even gave them some of her own picture books to read.
Instead of going off on a journey like other kids her age were when she turned ten, Claudia preferred to stay home, continuing to hone her knowledge on Pokemon, but most of all, to determine the significance of the Pokemon that was gracing her dreams. A Gardevoir, a Pokemon she had seen before on television and in books, had been visiting her every night in her dreams for nearly a year. They had many a conversation, spanning the trivial "what did you do today?" to the deep "what do you think the meaning of life is?" and more. Finally, about a month and a half after her tenth birthday, the Gardevoir asked her, "Do you believe that humans and Pokemon are one and the same?"
Claudia began her answer by quoting things she had read in books, about aura, and about legends that had stated as such. But then, the Gardevoir interrupted. "But do you believe that they are one and the same?" After much deliberation, Claudia said that she did, in fact, believe that they were one and the same. Overjoyed with this answer, the Gardevoir drifted over to her, pulling her into a tight hug. Uncomfortably tight. Painfully tight. Snapping awake, Claudia realized then that she was shifting. She wanted to cry out, alert her parents, but she couldn't scream. She couldn't make any noise. After about ten minutes, the pain ebbed away, and Claudia found herself lying in her bed, no longer human, but a Gardevoir.
After managing to revert back, morning came, and Claudia asked her parents about the significance of a dream, not mentioning the fact that she had transformed the night before. Her parents both looked at each other, before admitting that they, too, had dreams like this, and when they had asked her if anything else had happened, Claudia reluctantly said yes, and shifted into the Gardevoir that had appeared to her so many times in her dreams before. Her parents seemed surprised, but then revealed that they, too, had the same power. Her mother was a strong and beautiful Rapidash, while her father was a large, sharp-witted Alakazam. Very soon, Claudia's book-filled days were replaced with learning how to control her shifting, courtesy of her mother, and learning to control her newfound psychic powers in her Pokemon form, courtesy of her father.
When Claudia turned fourteen, however, her parents told her that word was spreading about a school in Sinnoh that was protecting young shifters from the outside world. Though Claudia wasn't all that eager to leave home, her parents managed to convince her that it was for the best. Claudia wasn't too thrilled about this until she learned about the school's massive library and observatory, where she spent most of her days and nights. And now, Claudia has since graduated from the academy, but now she stays, running the library during the day, and the observatory on the beautiful clear nights that Avalon Academy has every so often.
