Second born, illegitimate child of the Stone family, founders of the leading manufacturer of Pokemon technology in the Hoenn region, in Rustboro. However, their prestige has been on a dramatic rise only recently. Laike was not there to witness the company grow by leaps from its humble beginnings though. By the time he was born, business had already become successful for the Stone family—only that his birth had put a slight wrench in that escalating progress. His mother was a plain old florist’s daughter after all and possessed little in the way of profits and value aside from her noteworthy looks. His father, whose wife had passed away a long time ago, was surprisingly a very charming and doting person and truly treasured Laike’s mother. He would have gone so far as to oppose his entire family to marry her, but his mother was of the same mind as his family. She’d been convinced that a marriage between them would only threaten his position so, being the incredibly selfless woman that she was, she moved out of town in hopes of forgetting and renewal; she was unknowingly pregnant with Laike at that time.
Laike was born in Littleroot, a small town fringed by forests, where his mother and her father had decidedly moved their flower shop. With an immensely devoted mother and grandfather, he grew up cheerful and quite like any brat with gullible parents. It was shortly after his fifth birthday that his mother contracted a fatal illness and died one year afterward. It proved to be a convenient death. On the funeral day, a representative of the Stones dropped by to pick him up under the pretense that, him being his father’s child, they were now responsible for his well being. However, the fact was that they needed a new heir, since their eldest son so gloriously relinquished his rights to inherit the company to follow his dream. Laike was then moved to the main house back at Rustboro, where he underwent the harsh treatment befitted of an illegitimate child. His father was still the loving man he’s always been, welcoming him with both tears of joy and sadness for the loss of his mother, but the short intervals of affection between work had not been enough to stave off the pressure of inheritance. Laike eventually molded his character to deal with the pressure until he became fourteen years old.
The child’s behavior had already acquired something of a difficult character by then. But it became much worse during his fourteenth year. The cause of it was unknown to them, but it was crystal clear to Laike. Since long ago he had begun to yearn after the concept of freedom. His dreams endlessly dwelled on the idea as he spent his daylight hours indulging himself in continuous escapades and adventures as far as he could manage before he was caught. Reaching out for that sort of chainless life, he suddenly began to fantasize about a certain pokemon. A Glameow would often visit his dreams and enjoy itself along with him through his escape routes and secret hidden spots. It was a crafty little thing, sometimes showing him even better paths out into the open.
It was during a hot summer night that one of these dreams became a particularly vivid one and the Glameow seemed particularly insistent in joining him for a run through the darkness. To Laike though, it was just another routine session. In the midst of their flight, Laike was suddenly woken up by an intense pain that rocked his body awake. Silently, he endured the pain of shifting until it was finally over, his body spent. But that night, he fled the house not as a human, but as a Glameow (he returned by morning). Luckily though, no one managed to find out about his shifting until a year later, when he was about to turn fifteen.
As It happened, his father had successfully cleared enough of his work to spend some quality time with Laike a few days before his birthday. It was by accident that he barged into his room one evening just as he was shifting into his pokemon form. Laike didn’t notice, as he shifted while jumping out the window, but after coming back before sunrise, he was startled to have returned to his room and find his father sitting on his bed, looking over some old photos. His father confessed to have seen him, so Laike didn’t bother hiding the truth from him. It surprised his father to suddenly see him shift back, but it did not seem to anger him. Rather, there was an untraceable sigh to the thin smile he put up at that moment. He laughed wholeheartedly the next, baffling Laike even more. “How blessed and unfortunate my children are—“ he said and left after some more smiling.
At the time of his fifteenth birthday, Laike was told he would be attending a different academy, by order of his father. He didn’t even get to see anyone off. He was quickly wrapped up and sent away.
